Topics I've Started

  1. Unreal Engine in a browser!

    03 May 2013 - 08:00 AM

    Impressive. Uses asm.js + Emscripten + OdinMonkey.

And a blog post on it: https://brendaneich....-game-platform/

Google Chrome doesn't have full support for this yet, so you need to use the Firefox nightlies. I tried it with Firefox 23.0a1 on Ubuntu 13.04 and it worked wonderfully! Trying it in Chromium 25.0.1364.160 caused my system to lock up for a bit though. I had to kill the Chromium process :P
  2. jQuery 2.0 is out

    18 April 2013 - 09:40 PM

jQuery 2.0 came out today. They've dropped support for legacy IE (IE 6, 7 and 8) and will be keeping jQuery 1.9 on life support for people that still require legacy IE compatibility. Removing the legacy IE hacks has made the minified version 9 KB smaller and more efficient.

  3. Chrome record/playback mode

    07 April 2013 - 11:05 PM

This has been in Chrome since the very first versions, but I've only found out about it recently. Chrome lets you record network requests and then play them back later, so you can do a full end-to-end demo without an internet connection.

    Mind blown.
  4. Google closing product forum for Google Talk?

    04 April 2013 - 06:56 AM

Went to the Google Talk forums today when I noticed this:
    Posted Image

Google indexes pretty much the whole web, and yet they can't keep a relatively small text-based forum online? What? Not only that, but they suggest "copy/paste it to another place for safe keeping" as a means of archival, which is laughable at best.

Is this a sign they may plan to deprecate Google Talk one day? Perhaps closing the forum is the first step. Or am I just thinking too far into this?
  5. The best Twitter Bootstrap theme

    01 April 2013 - 09:31 PM

Looking to launch your very own modern website? Look no further than Twitter Bootstrap, GeoCities edition.

Thanks for your suggestion Daniel. Do you know if there are performance differences between PHP, Python and Ruby based frameworks? Not that i'd like to write a second Facebook, but since my server supports all three of them, I might as well just use the one with the best performance ;)
