#146394 Site dying down :(

Posted by Hyde on 10 October 2015 - 01:25 PM

I keep logging once in a while to see if Sapporo posted some new cryptic messages.

The last few months have probably been fatal to the forum... I hope Kyek gives us some heads up before he decides to pull the plug.

Is the server hosted in Ukraine? We're being invaded by Russians!

Hilarious (or sad) that I made it in the top 10 posters with 4 posts.

At this point I think it's obvious that this place is dying. :(

I bet those aren't the only things you're into, Mr. 420. WELCOME!

Well, he certainly isn't into evil drugs, that's for sure.

#142604 how to connect a formular with a database

Posted by Hyde on 04 April 2014 - 09:56 PM

It would be nice to have a translation as well as the French post :)

I'm on my phone so it's quite painful, but I wrote a quick translation :

"Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts to achieve what you want to do. You built a simple HTML form with Dreamweaver, but from a technical standpoint, this won't be enough to bridge between the form and a database. You will need a server-side programming language, PHP being a great example. However, it appears that you do not have the required knowledge to accomplish this, and Dreamweaver can't do it for you neither. This is why a programmer cannot easily be replaced by software.

I understand that you can't wait to have your project working, but if you merely keep looking for a shortcut and don't actually learn to code yourself, you will just end up running in circles and you won't get anything done any quicker. The best advice that I can give you is to grab a book that will cover the basis of Web development. As I mentioned earlier, PHP is a great langage to start with : it is relatively easy and will allow you to accomplish what you have in mind. Plus, it has a great community that doesn't lack enthusiasm.

Moreover, if you decide to roll up your sleeves and learn to code, I can't recommend enough this great website called "le site du zéro" (I just noticed that the name has changed, but the course is still available for free). I suggested buying a book, and accordingly, the course is also available in this format if you prefer it. It's what I used to learn Web development a few years ago. Software such as Dreamweaver can never replace a competent developer, and nothing prevents you from becoming one."

#142600 how to connect a formular with a database

Bonjour essefi_intithar!

Sorry guys, I hope I don't sound like a douche for not writing in English. My intention was to communicate more directly with this user.

#142365 Programmer Jokes

Posted by Hyde on 17 March 2014 - 09:32 AM

A mugger threatened a guy with a knife and said: "give me your money or I'll take your life"

the guy smiled.

The mugger said: "what's so funny?(in an angry voice)"

the guy said:"I'm a programmer , I have no money and I have no life."

I love that this is your first post :D

#140590 Thoughts on Adblock?

Posted by Hyde on 23 December 2013 - 12:08 AM

Fuck. That.

Auto-playing anything on the web is disgusting. When I open a tab and suddenly audio starts playing and I have no idea where it comes from, I immediately force quit my browser. Rude, annoying, and an overall shitty experience. I use Adblock plus (which lets through some adverts) because I find them a bit annoying, but if Facebook or anyone else starts using auto-playing ads I am done.

edit: oops I didn't read the article very closely, got ahead of myself. I don't mind auto playing videos. They are fine with audio muted because at that point they're like animated GIFs. But if they're going to play the audio when I scroll by I'll do everything in my power to block them.

Even muted videos are pretty annoying. We are constantly exposed to publicity throughout our day, we don't need even more ads trying to catch our attention. I guess it's selfish of me, but I will do everything not to see ads when browsing, even if that means that someone is not getting paid. I'm not opposed to content creators getting paid (quite the contrary), but I'm opposed to the strategy of making money through ads.

I'm not saying that I have a better suggestion though. However I do like to send donations when I feel that it is earned.

#140381 Punishing a scammer?

Posted by Hyde on 07 December 2013 - 08:32 AM

I can't officially do anything. I want suggestions for unofficial options, like the telling-all-his-friends-teachers option.

Are you twelve? Learn from your mistakes. You fucked up. He did scam you, but rationalizing it won't change the fact that it couldn't have happened had you not fucked up....
