AwesomezGuys thing says "powered by Mibbit" and it's because I don't want needless stuff on my CPU. I already have 1TB in use for my VMs.

Yes. He's configured it wrong, from the looks of things.

Parsing text into IRC messages and parsing IRC messages into text in JavaScript = more CPU than in a language such as C++?

Depends on the javascript engine. If you're using Chrome, it's about the same CPU usage as C++ because they both compile to machine code before they're run.
