Suggestion: wdR MarketPlace

I have a suggestion for a new forum section, on this site: The wdR MarketPlace.

If you saw my other post, then you'll already know what it's about.

---------

Basically it would be a place to trade domains, buy/sell stock images that you've made, or sell cool webpage templates and stuff.

You could sell webhosting, servers you have, or anything else like that!

Random gadgetry could be sold/traded too, (meaning that anything classed as "advertising" wouldn't need to go in the 'General Discussion' place).

---------

Obviously, there would be rules such as not spamming the same item in mutliple threads....not advertising in other people's threads etc.

Ohter rules may need to be made as problems arouse obviously.

----------

Anyway, I just thought this was a cool idea, since I've tried to sell things in 'General Discussion' before, and it just didn't feel right, as well as in 'Unix Based Servers'. Those places are not meant for buying/selling (at least as far as I think anyway).

I've seen many other Web Dev sites that have MarketPlaces too, and I thought that as a community, we could handle one as well :P

----------

Feedback/suggestions?

I personally think something like this shoudln't belong in a forum about web development and helping others. It could also open up more problems including item theft, scamming, etc. Advertisements really shouldn't be on wdR but that is of course my personal opinion. I just feel the category of buy/sell and advertisement is way too far off from this forum's "Web design/development help" category.

I agree that it doesn't belong amongst threads that are meant to help people, but I think all of us here are mature enough to handle the occassional domain trade aren't we? Or the occassional server advert?

All this would be, is one section (perhaps part of the same category where 'Tech News Talk' and 'General Discussion' are), where simple buy/sell offers for anything that relates to webDev stuff, or technology stuff (its all relavent, see?).

WebDev usually have all sorts of domains lying around, that other people may want! Or maybe you have a VPS you no longer use, and want to get SOME money for it, so sell it to another webDev for a cheaper price?

I would much rather sell something I know somebody is going to use well here, than post on DigitalPoint or something, and get spammed to shit.

I don't know if we necessarily need a forum for it. It doesn't happen often enough to require one.

So far we haven't had any spam problems here. A know quite a few members have sold VPS and domains an such. I bought Carson's iPod touch off him. I think for now we are fine without it.
DO NOT OPEN THIS

Yeah we haven't had any problems with it, but maybe a forum for it would....promote trade? :P Grow the economy? No? ;)

Exactly... How I see it, a sub-forum of "General Discussion" would the maximum importance that it could deserve, and yet it would be pretty useless. It happened maybe 2-3 times since the forum was opened... It's not enough to justify a new forum.

Why not just make a separate website that we all frequent?

Exactly :P Whereas if a forum was here, it would actually get used...

I mean really...the BragSpot forum has only ever had 65 threads in like, three years.

In three years, a trading/marketplace forum would be used a lot more.

I think it's a good idea. I dislike PM's. :P

Edit: But then again, Someone will probably convince me otherwise.

But the difference still stands that a Development forum needs a BragSpot-type forum but not really a Buy-and-sell forum. Also im not sure it would be used as much as that

Yeah, that's true, but I just thought it would be cool to have a place where we can buy/sell stuff relating to webDev stuff. Meh. I guess if nobody wants it, then there's not really any point is there? :(

Because if we encourage it by having an official form for it that means wdR needs to handle mediation, reputation, and I think there are also legal risks with that. If you want to sell something, you're free to talk about it here if you're a regular, but I don't think wdR should be known for selling things. If you come here just to sell something (/not a regular) then the posts do get deleted because everyone reports them as spam ;) or at least I do :P

Make posting in the "trading" forum, limited to people who have a minimum post count of at least 1 a day :P (...I'm getting there.... ;) )

Who said we have to advertise the fact that we trade things to and fro?
We can just have it as our own little cubby of goodness :)
