Got any points you think will convince my parents to let me open one?

First, ask your parents why you shouldn't have a bank account, on the sly, then you can prepare something to counter-act their arguments. Another method would be to ask for something more ridiculous and when they reject, you "settle" for a bank account.

I cant remember the name for that last method, I even read a Wikipedia page on it too. Anyone know of it?

Might try it. What are your thoughts about http://www.aib.ie/pe...count-2nd-Level ?

EDIT: Seemed to have convinced my parents to get one. :)

I have an Ulster Bank account Fike. They're excellent, I've had it since I was 11. When I hit 13 they mailed me a VISA debit card and I've used that for all my online stuff since. And when you hit 18 they'll upgrade it to a Student or regular current account automatically, so you don't have to go closing and opening accounts. :)

Yeah, was looking at them alright. Got a link to what account you had? What's their online banking like? And do they allow wire transfers on 2nd-level student accounts? Sorry, but I'm sort of new to banking. :)

I've got two bank accounts - A regular one I've had since I was 15, and a high-interest savings account I've had since I was 19 or 20. :P

Repeat after me: jQuery is not JavaScript. It is not the answer to every JavaScript-related question. When you have to write some JavaScript, do not instantly react with "Oh, I'll do that with jQuery!"

Omg! Credit cards for minors? Hmmm, banks seemed to have found a new way to tie people to debt.

Unless, it's a debit type of card that can't over draft.

I see no problem with anybody of any age having a bank account. However, I can see parents teaching their children about money. We study calculus and physics at school and some probably could create the formula for crack in high school however, accounting and basic money skills are skipped over. Insanity!

I wished I had learned about money in school :(

Minors seem to use the terms debit card and credit card interchangeably and I have no idea why. In the UK at least, minors cannot have credit cards as it involves a contract.

Yeah, there seems to be some confusion.

Where I am, most people don't even know what "debit" is, and refer to any card used in relation to money a "credit" card.

No surprises that so many people find themselves tied down to enormous amount of debt.
