Adobe fireworks

Is it worth it?
Is there really any practicle upside to fireworks that illustrator and photoshop can not do. Is it mostly just personal preference?

I'm far from a graphic designer; however, the way it's been explained to me is that Fireworks melds the vector capabilities of Illustrator with the bitmap capabilities of Photoshop into one product, which is exactly what's needed for screen (e.g. web) design. The problem is that Fireworks was bought after Adobe create Illustrator and Photoshop, and the workflow in it is still slightly different, so not many people use it simply because it's different than they're used to. Smashing Magazine had a pretty good article on some of the capabilities of Fireworks: http://fireworks.sma...dobe-fireworks/

They don't have Fireworks articles often, but the ones they do have are pretty awesome: http://fireworks.smashingmagazine.com/
