wdR Designer Competition (feedback before starting)
So I thought, what if I went to wdR and used the team finder, then I remembered Kyek's attempt. And his post didn't seem to labor any fruit. So what if we made it competitive and forced all entries to be licensed in Creative Commons share-alike. What if it it was so broad that anyone could enter anything? What if there was a freakin' reward if some set amount of entries were exceeded? What if you just gave me your thoughts below since it's 1.5am here-time?
Current thoughts on guidelines:
- Sprite sheets should contain left, right, up, and down images.
- You may design as many sprite sheets as you want
- You must create an example level with these sprite sheets (this is what you will primarily be judged on)
The example level does not need to be programmed, just a simple image that uses your sprites/tilesets and shows how it would look in-game.
Top contenders will be picked by a panel of wdR'ians and perhaps some Blizzard art employees (they're kind of busy though). If there is not a large amount of people on this panel, there will also be a poll (by PM or post so only established wdR'ians [eg, not family members, friends, etc.] can vote). Alright, here is to hoping I didn't just say the stupidest thing at one thirty in the morning.
P.S. to developers: JavaDoc of the game engine I was talking about: http://dl.dropbox.co...-doc/index.html
