About to create first e-Commerce site.

Looking for tips
As the title suggests i'm about to create my first e-commerce site, i'm looking to use PHP and some sort of framework. I don't have any real experience using a framework at this point, and would be learning as i went.

So the first question is what would be the best framework to use for such a project - pretty much open to use anything really as well as it's well suited.

Also, what would be the best payment gateway to use? I'm looking at sagepay at the moment which seems decent enough.

Any other tips would also be welcome :)

Ummm, If you want to build from scratch pm me. I'm planning to create a new version of my project and basically plan to start from scratch.

I'd suggest just using a code base that is already in use. Several out there. Stay away from oscommerce and zencart ;) magneto is zend and that in itself says a lot. presta is popular but .... Hmmmm .....

I have opensource code on github called sakuracart and am more than willing to help you of you choose that. It's a fork of another project, mvc, oo and what not.

Just had a quick look through and that looks awesome, i'll definately be checking it out. Won't be starting this for a week or so at least though as i'm off on holi's tomorrow :D.

Quick question, how come none of the tables have foreign keys?

@ magneto
Zend is awesome but because of that comes the complexity and learning curve. Many mom and pop shops have problems with those factors. Tried to do a template for magneto ... Meh!

@ Foreign keys
Part of the reason is that I haven't converted the MySQL side to PDO. The other part is that is how the original dev decided to do it.

I'm working on what needs should be considered for the next version. I'm delaying the main site since I want to come out running. The next version is going to include some wicked ideas that I haven't seen else were and should be a major contender for what magneto is weak at. :)
