I think the biggest issue at least for me there is a lot of code so I have to wait till I get time to test it and then you have a new post with newer code. So everything I test ends up being pointless.

That would be the "SIMPLIFIED QUESTION" I added, in bold, on the first line of the original post, then changed the thread title so everyone would know where to look, and would realize they didn't have to read the long convoluted original post.

But I already figured it out, not clean, but works. I just needed to use "parent('div')" and "prepend()", instead of the original "prev()" and "before()" functions.
