That's why I check the ratings. Never had a problem though. I just use AdBlock and Screen Capture and JSON view and Auto HD for YouTube and Stop Autoplay for YouTube and YouTube thumbs.

You should check out GlimmerBlocker, instead of AdBlock, plus Ghostery.

Bad, a lot of overhead for something so simple. AdBlock just injects a JavaScript that either prevents ads from loading by deleteing their node or blocking the request, or sets

display: none;

on them. It also uses CSS for some ads.

Hmm, I'll have to rethink this now. I only resorted to using it because the AdBlock extension for Safari didn't work that well at the time, but maybe it has improved.

Ah you're using Safari? I use Chrome since it syncs with my PC. Though I might use Safari since it will sync with my iPod and iPad. But Safari extensions aren't too nice also I <3 control + shift + n.

Safari extensions aren't too bad now. I've made a few for personal uses (like my URL shortener), and they're essentially the same as Chrome's.

To the OP, although Chrome is improving, there's little an extension can do without requesting all that data. Google didn't give developers many lesser options, so most people had to use that one for their extensions.

When I started getting back into computers it was because I bought a Mac, so Safari was the first browser I got used to using. Then I moved to Firefox, then back to Safari. I then decided to install OSX (10.6.8) on an old PC machine I had, and have been using that a lot lately but Safari tends to crash on it every once in a while, so I figured I'd give Chromium a try ... may even try Google Chrome but not sure what the differences are?

Ah, I see, thanks for that info. If there so called "Chrome Web Store" didn't have so many junk extensions I wouldn't have been as concerned

Updated to the latest Safari and my crashes seem to have disappeared, so I'm going back to it It seems to load faster than Chromium too.

The only thing missing in Safari is better bookmark management. I miss the way FireFox, and Chromium, manage new bookmarks and display existing ones with the "list" star, plus Safari must have the worst way of displaying your folder option - it list the WHOLE F'n folder structure whenever you want to add on , why they never fixed this, I'll never understand. I think if they'd only add that feature, there really wouldn't be anything else I would need in a browser (probably never have to update again, unless there was some fantastic HTML/CSS breakthrough ).

I'm sure bits of it would be running in the OS, much like Internet Explorer on Windows

May I ask why you are using Chromium? The stable Google Chrome build might help out with the crashes/speed.

Not using it anymore, Safari now meets all my needs. And it was the old Safari that was crashing, not Chromium, plus Chrome has no noticeable speed advantages over it, or even Safari for that matter.

I'm happy now, no need to play with other browsers, except when testing designs

I only have AdBlock and use Chrome, although I did like Safari and unlike Chrome, Safari saved to Program Files whereas Chrome is saved in temporary files (not by choice either, it's how Google wanted to install it) :|

Ah, you're using Safari for Windows. I tried it once years ago when I still had a Windows machine, but didn't like it at all. Safari on a Mac is way different than the Win version. Or at least it was, Apple seems to be treating Windows users with more respect now than how they treat OSX users.

Chrome installs into your AppData directory instead of Program Files. This is so users without admin permissions can install it. Kinda weird though

I know, it confused me a lot! I was trying to make a Chrome theme (turned out alright but not great) but took me ages to actually find the default theme for an example because it was so well hidden. It simply makes more sense to save to Program Files as default, it's where everything else goes...
