Screen size doesn't matter. The letters are bigger or you have to scroll less, that is what changes. And it can be annoying to hold that huge thing.

Have you ever used one for more than five minutes? I have recently. The keyboard is awkward at first, but if I had it for a longer time I could've gotten used to it. There are apps that can only be used on a larger screen. A lot of apps have much better interfaces on the iPad than on the iPhone.

Agreed -- the usability of many apps on the iPad is much improved, and therefore the frustration level you experience by spending a lot of time on the device and trying to use it as your main internet device is far decreased. And I wouldn't discount the screen size as a whole, either. I don't have an iPad (who knows, maybe in the future) but when I'm chilling on the couch and I feel like watching the latest episode of HIMYM, you better believe I'm going to reach for my Touchpad before I ever consider pulling up Plex on my phone and having to hold the thing inches from my face while I watch. The tablet can be propped up wherever is comfortable, and I can watch the episode on a much nicer screen (even nicer for those with the new HD screen iPad) without hauling my laptop out and plugging it in somewhere.

There's nothing wrong with not having a tablet or deciding it doesn't have much value for your life, but you can't make that judgement call for everyone else :)

Honestly I think dida has just formed an opinion that Tablets = Evil and isn't open minded enough to even consider one.

Not at all. I doesn't seem like you have tried one for more than 15 minutes. Many, many apps are redesigned and the layout is entirely different. The process of designing an app for the iPhone versus an app for the iPad is really different. Concepts such as sidebars are not existent on the iPhone, where we relay almost entirely on navigation and tab bars. And in addition to better usability, you can see a lot more details in one screen.

Something else that you don't seem to have consider is that the battery life on the iPhone is around 8 hours of screen usage. This means that if you spend 2 hours on it, you are left with 75% of battery for the rest of the day.

My dad has transformed his office to a complete paperless workflow using iPads. He's a scientist, so normally they'd be printing papers and drafts all the time, using PDF annotation tools on the iPad + Dropbox sync you can really avoid printing anything except final publications if you do it right.
That's nuff said for a valid purpose beyond fooling around, right?

I personally don't feel like I need one currently, but if I ever get in a situation where I have to handle a lot of "paperwork", I'll just get the exact apps my dad showed me. I forgot the names but can get them if someone is interested - he went through quite a bunch of useless note taking & annotation apps before finding really professional solutions.

That's pretty cool. Glad to see that it is being increasingly used in business!

Hey gibbon can you possibly find them names out? I'm pretty interested, i'm gonna be getting my dad the New ipad for fathers day (possibly) and it'd be real handy for him if had some of these apps as he would use it for his work. Plus if he ever gets bored of it, or doesnt want it, it would save me like 100 pieces of A4 paper a week at college, XD.

Probably one of the most on-topic posts so far (i.e relevant to the new iPad rather than just iPads in general... :)

Done!

I'm really excited to receive mine. I hope I'm not gonna be affected by the shortages... I did buy it when they said it would arrive between the 16th and 20th of March.

Most folks getting it on the 16th have received shipment notifications already -- mine (well, my father-in-law's) is sitting at the local FedEx warehouse until Friday D:

I'm in Canada so I'm not expecting to get it on the 16th, but I still hope to at least get it before the 21th.

How does one hang a thread title to something else?
