Hey gibbon can you possibly find them names out? I'm pretty interested, i'm gonna be getting my dad the New ipad for fathers day (possibly) and it'd be real handy for him if had some of these apps as he would use it for his work. Plus if he ever gets bored of it, or doesnt want it, it would save me like 100 pieces of A4 paper a week at college, XD.

I have to retract about saying I don't want an iPad. I may buy an iPad two soon. Our professor gave us our $200 physics book in PDF format for free. I've been reading it on my macbook air, but have had a hard time concentrating since the text is smaller and I'll get an email, etc. Reading the book on my mother's iPad 1 is working great, notifications only take the page number uptop, the font is the right size, I can google something if need be, but because you can only have one app open at a time it keeps me studying.

I can imagine the new iPad being even more practical for reading not only because of the insane resolution, but also because the back is flat and thus stable on a table, in opposition to the first iPad which I hear is wobbly.

Well I hold it when I'm reading. Also I think the lower resolution is easier on my eyes.

How would that work? The higher resolution will make the text clearer, so you can probably read it easier even at a lower brightness. If anything that would make it easier on your eyes.

Also, you're considering buying a $500 iPad to read the PDF textbook instead of buying the $200 physical one :P

I assume the higher resolution gives me a headache. Also lower resolution makes text larger generally ;) because it can't be rendered as "fine." I'M MAKING MY OWN SCIENCE, OKAY!

You have no idea how heavy that book is! Also I can see using it for other books in the future and internet on my hour commute. Also I might jailbreak it and do some CS assignments on it. My iPod 4g isn't the world's best Java editor.

Why would you need to jailbreak it for that? According to AwesomezGuy, Panic is making an IDE for the iPad (If so, that will be awesome). Also, there's a reason the new iPad is exactly twice the resolution in both directions. Things will be rendered the same size using four times as many pixels.

@Rails might just have to wait to see the new iPad to see if its easier/difficulter (yes thats a real word).

It just seems to me that text displayed on a retina screen would be easier to read. The iPad new has a DPI of 264, which is right in the range of most print material (usually between 200-300) and has a 44 percent greater color saturation which should also increase its ability to be read easier than text on an iPad original.

If you're going to be coding on it, a bluetooth keyboard is a must. I've tried coding on the digital keyboard and it was a joke.

I did the math, yeah I was making random stuff up. Truth be told, I didn't want to want an iPad because I'm trying to save money for next semester! I Jailbreak because I actually compile and run my code on the device as well. I'll check out that IDE though.

I'm actually fine with the tap keyboard. I know some people are very pectular on their keyboard with their "cherry mx switches" and stuff, but I've had the mapping layout enforced in my head and don't have a problem hitting the right keys.

I don't have a problem missing, it just isn't ergonomic to type like that.

Panic IDE wouldn't work for me. I mainly do Java applications on my iPod and sometimes do PHP or Rails

Ah, I don't generally have long coding sessions on it. I'll just be like, "'eh I got time, might as well code a feature or add a test."

Are you one of those people who downscale their native monitor resolution because "the text is bigger then"

$200 is a little high, talk them down to $150.

Also...don't ever get AT&T.

I was going to use their unlimited for $30, though they found a way to transfer that to the new iPad. I can unlock it and use a different provider right?

Anyone have any web/dev app recommendations? Looking at a few HTML IDEs for mockups.

Nebulous notes (link) works really nicely with dropbox, assuming that you'd like to use dropbox. It's handy.
