My Dock functions the same as Windows' bar thing (what's it called i forget...). It just shows me what apps I have open and gives me quick access to ones I have pinned. I *rarely* open apps from the dock anyways. Alfred means I can opt+space and open any app or file on my mac.

The taskbar sucks too. I prefer using the activities overlay to search all my apps, running or closed. SInce my hands are alrewady at the keyboard, Gnome Shell really capitalises on this like no other OS I've ever used. Workspace switching is a modifier and cursor key away; launching applications is maybe 4 keystrokes. Tracker search gives me the same, if not greater, degree of power over filesystem search too; there are tons of plugins to extend it with.

I'm happy with my current setup aside from hardware, so that's where my interest lies.

Problem is, I can't type "right". :(

If it's nothing overly amazing, then surely other PC manufacturers would be able to replicate them for an even lower cost?

They'd get sued.

Apple has a cult following, and their followers aren't exactly strapped for cash (or are, but really don't care about putting their children through college or being able to eat three meals a day). That's how they can afford the development. They overcharge, make a huge profit, and throw it into development again so they'll be able to overcharge even more.

Any company can do that, but not every company has a cult following. Apple could design an electronic toilet that has a touch screen and Siri, label it iShit, iShat, or iCrap, and make millions because people would blindly throw their money away (who doesn't want to hear that sexy voice confirming an appointment being made for their proctologist as they painfully excrete waste?).

It's insane (and brilliant). They take ideas that other people had years ago, repackage them into something a little more modern, and sell it for $$$ while their customers go on and on and on and on and on about how original Apple is.

Oh, and don't be ignorant. Apple could still be making record profits if they dropped their prices by quite a bit (just look at where and how they assemble everything -- they could move all the factories here, to the US, and still be making a handsome profit).

...did you just suggest people starve their children in order to purchase apple products?

No. I'm sure quite a few people give up breakfast and/or lunch (themselves) for a few months just so they can afford the newest Apple product. I know a few part-timers at work who are going to college that didn't bring anything for lunch (just water, if that counts) after the new iPad came out, just so they could save up money to get one. It's not that hard to assume others do the same.

Sage, if you live in America, that's more than fine. We over-eat and can live without all that freaking food. If they get used to it, we'll stop obesity and they'll save money.

Meanwhile in the rest of the world, we're not stupid, so that doesn't happen :-D

(but I do know a couple people who did that for an android phone)

You know what else would help, charging more for larger size clothing because it costs more for more materials.

Not in most places. All sizes generally cost the exact same price.

Except the extra large sizes. Near here, XXL and XXXL are usually more expensive than the rest.

S-L are same price, than from XL+ they charge more. I find that decent since I'm also paying for the artwork/design.

Down here in Aus, all prices are the same for clothes!! XS, and XXXL cost the same (an XXXL tshirt is like a flippin bed sheet). And yet, so people don't get offended, they charge the same.

Think about it though. They still make a profit on it. How much then have the prices been marked up from manufacture costs?!?!

So I just downloaded soundflower, on the top left which allows you to set application sound output to other apps like say garageband or audacity. Then you can mix music from online or in a movie.

soundflower-definition above
sparrow-email client
dropbox-duh
growl-notifications
alfred-launcher
dash-code lookup
cloud-I use it to upload images because it keeps endings for wdr pics (if you set it right)
