To provide a more constructive formulation: how are "short" keywords a bad thing if they are concise and describe exactly what you are looking for? and is it a good thing if the forum software rejects "html" as a search term in a webdev forum?

I'm well aware that I can google wdR, but it defeats the purpose of an internal search function with direct DB access if it blocks out relevant keywords

I could name at least ten keywords which are one or two characters long but, if used in combination, are a very precise search term...

That's a limitation of MySQL, unfortunately. FULLTEXT doesn't index any works under 4 characters, so IPB can't search with it. What's frustrating is that, even though we're using Sphinx for searches and indexing, IPB still imposes that limitation.

As a new user, I wouldn't go check google for posts on wdR, I would just go elsewhere. That's why IMO this is a serious issue.
