webdevRefinery Forum: [Designer] One page design for Zirck - webdevRefinery Forum

Post a new thread here ONLY if you already have a project plan and know what you need. Then, PLEASE include what you need in the title. Example: "[Designer] to help build a cooking site". If you're extra awesome, edit the title and add [CLOSED] to it once your team is filled! If you'd just like to be included in someone else's project but don't have an idea of your own, please don't post a new topic.

ONLY APPLY TO A POSTING if you can fill the spot that's been asked for! When someone is asking for a designer, offering your help as a developer only clutters and derails the thread. Posting to talk about the project idea (unless it's relevant to you working with the poster) is discouraged as well -- that sort of talk is what The Idea Oven is for. Thanks for helping to keep these threads clutter-free! :)

[Designer] One page design for Zirck

Hey,

Zirck will be a web-based IRC client written in JavaScript, CSS3 and HTML5 (Node.js for the server side). Currently, all of the web-based IRC clients are either ugly, flash, closed source, or plastered in adverts. Having asked around on various IRC networks, it seems clear that there is a need for a new web-based IRC client.

The designer will just be doing the design, and possibly a bit of JavaScript for the design itself. jQuery will be available, although if you prefer another framework then I wouldn't mind learning a new framework and would be happy to switch the project to that framework. The only browser support required is the latest versions of Chrome, Safari and Firefox. We will be using Git, including more advanced features such as branching (but if you haven't experience with that, I'm fine to help you with it – it's pretty easy anyway).

It will be a one page design. Koen was doing a design (which I loved) for the old version of this project, but I think he gave up. Here's what he did: http://i.imgur.com/yWfRo.png

In terms of payment I cannot yet offer you any money (but I have several project approaching in the feature which I will need a good designer for and you will be first on the list), but I will give you full credit wherever I can (most likely first thing they see on the server window)

I don't need backend developers. I will need beta testers eventually, but I'll post about that when we get there ;-)

(I just bought the domain, and have only pointed it at my VPS without configuring it – that's why it is displaying the wrong site)

Oh my, I thought you had quit.. I must have that PSD lying around somewhere, a quick browse didn't find it though. I *might* design one tomorrow, but I'm really not going to code it up for you (because that was the reason I didn't continue the last one ;S).

What features do you want me to implement?
How does logging in into a server/channel work? Do you only log in once into the server, or do you have a nick for each channel or am I completely off?
Do you have support for accounts, letting people save their connected servers etc.?
Please click the + if I helped you!

Not sure what you mean, so you mean what does the design need to include? If so, most IRC clients are pretty much the same, see this: http://lh4.ggpht.com..._001%5B2%5D.png

I prefer the way you did the server / channel list, though.

To log into a server, they will have to press a button somewhere, enter some details, and then they can connect. To enter a channel, they will type "/join #channel" into the input.

I will do, yes (and I might have support for openid)
